Arusha National Park

Arusha National Park, Tanzania

Located just a short drive from Arusha Town lies the national park that shares its name. Arusha National Park is the most accessible park on Tanzania’s Northern Circuit and is perfect for a day trip or as the first or last stop on a longer safari itinerary. Arusha National Park is divided into three main areas the Momella Lakes, Mount Meru, and the Ngurdoto Crater. Depending on the season, you can spot thousands of flamingos at the Momella Lakes, migrating between here and Lake Manyara.

Arusha National Park is known for having one of the largest populations of giraffes in the world, making it a great destination for wildlife lovers. Being the closest park to Arusha town, it is a popular choice for day trips before starting longer Northern Circuit safaris. The park is home to diverse wildlife, including elephants, hippos, buffalo, zebras, and occasional wildebeest. It is also an ideal place to stretch your legs, as both walking safaris and canoe safaris are available.

Best Time to Visit Arusha National Park

The best time to visit depends on your interests. Birdwatching is excellent from November to December and March to May. For wildlife viewing, the dry season from June to October is ideal, as animals are easier to spot around water sources.
